Tried your search method (bing) just to see and found no useful results. I searched actual records of the 42nd Alabama Regiment. Only James P MCCurdy appears there. That's why I posted that the pension application for W H McCurdy is in error.

There is no war record listing W M McCurdy in the 42nd Alabama Regt.

James P McCurdy was captured on the lower slopes of Lookout Mountain, Nov 24, 1863. After spending the better part of a year in prison at Rock Island IL, he volunteered for U S service on the frontier. He joined Co H, 3rd U S Volunteer Regt. The company roll describes him as short (5 feet 4 inches tall), a carpenter by trade, born in Carrollton GA, age 22. He was released from U S service at Fort Leavenworth KS, Nov 29, 1865.
