John Powers of AL enlisted in J.S. Pemberton [not Pembleton as I previously had typed] Cavalry in GA. I read today where they provided local defense in Muscogee Co, GA. I've not had success today checking the Muscogee Co and Troup Co, GA 1860 censuses for John and Adeline Powers. Their children Mary and Jimmy both should be on the 1860 census with them.

I did find today a text version of the Coosa Co, AL, 1850 Federal census that lists:
484. Powers John M. age 26 Born in GA Occupation farmer

Adeline 19 GA

Mary 8/12 AL

These are my ancestors. Now if they can just be located in 1860. Maybe they moved back to GA for a while.
So much more research is available online now than it was when I last had time to look. Having spare time
is one advantage of being unemployed.
