Have a reference that states "Col W H Fowler, who was in charge of army records reported in 1865 that AL sent more men into military service, and the men represented a greater percent of the state's population, than any other southern state." No word on the number serving from other states.
Have read an article that stated that a large percentage of the Medal of Honor winners in WWII and Korea were from the South and a large percentage of them were of Scottish descent.
