Thanks for your response. Great point. Ask any modern armed services recruiter that's done both if it's easier to fill his quotas in the North or South!

The reasons for this are several. First our culture has always held Military service in high esteem. Secondly, since the WBTS we have been the poorest section. Hence many young men with few prospects and no money for education have chosen the military.

However, I believe the most important reason for this, at least since The War, is that we are the only section that knows first hand the consequences of loosing a War and being occupied by a foriegn power!
