My ggf was John James. He lived in or near Choctaw Co, Al possibly Sumpter Co. He was a chaplain in the CSA and died in Mobile Al of measles and pneumonia on May 27, 1862. Was it the custom at that time to send the body home or would he have been buried there in Mobile? I believe he may have been in Co B, 22nd Al Infan but the links I found to that list were broken. Can anyone point me in the right direction to get his records or any info available? I have never been able to find this person in the census (or anywhere else) so this would be so appreciated.
