Return of remains

Lots of people think that return of remains after a battle
was not possible, but it's been done for centuries. In the
middle ages, they packed the body in charcoal in an air-tight coffin. There was a queen of Spain who paraded around
with her husband's body for a year or so.

I've seen ads in newspapers of the WBTS period for "glass-
topped coffins suitable for parlor viewing". Confederate
soldiers escorting a body were paid 25 cents per day.....
hey that's better than the extra pay for being a nurse or railroad guard.
