Donna,
I've seen men be in three different units, but your guy
has set a record. As a regiment or battalion got smaller
it might be combined with another unit and take that unit's
name. It wouldn't look good to have a plethora of officers
who survived while many of the men were killed.
Here in Huntsville we had Young's Nitre and Mining Corps. When the Union Cavalry came to Huntsville some of
those men decided they had rather be in the Cavalry than
mining bat guano.
We've still got the good Kennamers and the bad Kennemars to this day.
