Vails in 5th Alabama Inf.

Jerimah Vail and Mary Funderburk lost 4 of 5 sons in war with the 5th Alabama Infantry. These men were of Catawba Indian blood (1/4):
Jeremiah Bozier Vail: Company E, 5th Alabama Infantry, died 1862 in Jackson, VA, KIA
Martin Luther Vail: Company E, 5th Alabama Infantry, died June 1863 from wounds received at Battle of Chancellorsville, Va.
John Calvin Vail: Company E, 5th Alabama Infantry, Captured at Gettysburg July 02, 1863, Died in Union prison Point Lookout, MD 1865
Jacob W. Vail: Company E, 5th Alabama Infantry, Captured at Gettysburg 1863, Died of "caries" a bone disease probably related to a fracture in prison at Fort Delaware, DelawareDecember 16, 1863
Only one son, Michael E. Vail, survived the war. It's not known if he served.
