Greetings,

Thank you for your post. Your website is quite nice and I am pleased to hear that my cousin Jacob has a nice place to spend eternity. I am sure he would have prefered another but life is as it is.

I'm sorry but I really don't have much further info on Jacob. Here is what I have:

Born 1834 in South Carolina, one of 7 children, 5 of whom were male

Married to a woman named Surilla (LNU)

Three sons, David Amziah Vail, 1857 Alabama, Basil Manley Vail, 1859, Alabama, Lewis M. Vail, 1862, Alabama.

Enlisted May 24, 1861.

Was wounded sometime shortly prior to Oct 16, 1862 in the Maryland campaign (Antietam, Boonsboro, Sharpsburg) and stayed in the hospital (Winder Div 3) until Nov 27, 1862 when he rejoined his unit. Following this he fought at Fredricksburg, Chancellorsville, and Winchester.

Captured at Gettyburg between July 1-3, 1863

It is believed that his father Jeremiah knew of his death as he deeded 2 slaves to Jacob's sons in 1864.

The family is extremely proud of Jacob Vail, warrior, along with his brothers who died for the cause they believed in.

As to the Funderburke you are seeking, I don't know the name but I strongly suspect there is a relationship as our people also ended up in Bienville Parrish, La. The Funderburk(e)s are a massive family.
