A Fort Pillow question. (oh, no!)
Fri Jul 27 17:12:49 2001
Since it turns out (from that earlier thread on Fort Pillow) that we have several students of this "incident", I have a question that I hope is not so controversial.
Who was at Fort Pillow the day *after* the attack?
I have found that a small group of Confederates returned with a Union officer in order to try to affect a return of Union wounded. But, that is about all that I have found.
The reason that I ask is that I have a book, Revised Regulations for the Army of the United States-1861, with this inscription: "A present from a ret. soldier at Fort Pillow--April 13, 1864."
As far as I can find, all the citizens at the fort fled prior to, or at the start of, the attack via the river.
Trying to solve this little mystery.
