Forrest's Calvary

I am looking for information on my gggrandfather John M. Harris. He was a blacksmith in the Colbert Co. area. During the war, he was suppose to have served in Forrest's calvary shoeing horses. I don't know if there was a unit commanded by a Forrest in Alabama or if it means Nathan Bedford Forrest. Any information would be appreciated.
