I don't know the answer to your question about deceased soldier claims, but you if find out, I sure would appreciate your notifying me.

A claim was made in Alabama by an ancestor's attorney, for his wife, and the claim was apparently never ruled upon. In all the time that I have spent in the microfilm, this is the only case that I have found that had no further information. This was fairly early in the war, and there was plenty of time to investigate and pay. His effects are noted as being in the possession of his brother, in the claim filed for his cousin's pay. [Cousin had the same name, so there was some confusion.]

There's a good chance that the Special Order *may* be contained in the Official Records volumes.
