David, I am currently researching the 15th Confederate Cav. that was organized at Halls Mill, Alabama, just west of Mobile on September 12, 1863. The Regiment was made up of men from Florida and Alabama Cavalry units. John H. Bethaea enrolled in Co. E of the 15th Con. Cav at this time. Co. E was formerly Co. C. of the 3rd Battalion Florida Cavalry. The location of his first enrollment does not show. Small world! James Monroe Gates is buried in the Green family Cemetery south of Lower Peach Tree, Alabama. My great grandmother was a Gates. If you should find photos of either of these men I sure would like to see them. Regards Art Green
