Hey Barry Wyatt; DeJarnette in :Prattville Dragoons":

Hey Barry,
That book by Grey is a good book about the history of Autauga County. But that roster is only of the first original members. But in the little book, "The War History of the Prattville Dragoons", by Wilbur Mims, it has that roster and also later recruits added later in the book. In this latter list of recruits/replacements, it states who was from Tennessee, and the ones from Alabama. I lost my copy of the book, but today went down to downtown Prattville to the little museum accross from the Police station. They have the book there for sale for $3.00 a copy. Naturally I did not have three dollars, but I thumbed through it and saw amongst the replacements/recruits who came up from Alabama, a T. DeJarnette. I did not get to thumb through it all and see if there were more. I just thought I would give you a hollar and let you know I found that out.
Also I know a elderly lady in Prattville whose granddad was among those new recruits from Alabama. He was one of the DeRamuses, I think George DeRamus. Anyway, she still has his sabre he carried in the when he rode with the Prattville Dragoons. She said the last thing he did with it when she was a little child was kill a snake with it. She used to have the sabre scabbard, sabre belt, pistol, holster, cap pouch, etc., etc., but years ago one of her sisters took it all and donated it to the Archives and History in Montgomery, and they refused to give it back to the lady I know. I found her a sabre scabbard, believe it or not, in a flea market for $5.00. I got it and brought it to her and now the sword rests in that scabbard. I just thought you would find that interesting.
By the way, that little museum has a room called the "Dragoon Room". The man told me that the Prattville Dragoons met up there. I assume it was when they got together and decided to create a company of cavaly. That meeting place at the old school was where they rendevoused for the last time, said there goodbyes, and were given a send off by the towns people when they actually marched off to war.
Take care,
Dave
