McMorries' History of the First Regiment says, on page 72, that "as Gen. Sherman's advance seemed to threaten Mobile, the regiment [1st AL] left Meridian Feb 14 and marched to the Tombigbee river, embarked on steamer, reaching Mobile Feb. 20." It would seem that the "camp" was on or near the river mentioned, but for only a brief time span.
