My ancestors enlisted at Loachapoka in AL 34th. Various companies, D,G mostly.

Please describe the scene they found at Loachapoka and what happened next, after they signed up. Did they go back home and wait for orders or were they immediately put on a train for Tupelo?

How much training did they get and how long were they in camp at Tupelo? Long enough to take leave to help with the crops back home?

Is there any hope for a muster list for the 34th? I haven't found one so far. My g-g grandfather, James Monroe Pless was captured at Chicamauga, sent to Fort Douglas and died there. He had several brothers who signed up and so did his wife, Lucinda Jane Boon(e) Pless. I have found them listed in the ORs.

Just trying to get a good mental picture of what went on, the officials involved at the site of enlistment (military personnel) and a feel for the general time frame between signing up and actually leaving for the army.

Thanks for any help you may be able to give.
