10th Alabama gravesites
Wed May 30 12:46:52 2001

I have been following bits and pieces of this issue for awhile. Where exactly is the gravesite in Bristoe and when is the "development" planned? I live in Fairfax County and I also have an ancestor who served with the 9th Alabama. The 9th was with the 10th, 11th, 12th, and 17th Alabama during that part of the war. He referred to 9th Alabama soldiers dying of illness each week while they were encamped on the battlefield at Manassas. They had actually set up camp right by the Stone House and were drinking the water from nearby springs and streams- contaminated from the battle. The area was finally considered to be "an unhealthful spot" and they were moved down the railroad line to Bristoe Station on August 12. Men were buried in Manassas and, I believe, out at Bristoe. I would like to see the gravesite and see if there is any link to the 9th. Also to ask if there is anything I can do.
