10th Alabama Cemetery at Bristoe Station, VA
Wed May 30 14:15:57 2001

Hello John:
The public hearing for the rezoning request is scheduled for September 19, 2001. The project is known as REZ#PLN 2001-0157 New Bristow Village, Prince William staff contact: David Grover. The application file with preliminary archeology report can be seen at the P.W. Government Building along the P.W. Parkway.

An officer of the 29th Ohio passed by the cemetery in the Fall of 1862 and described 50 to 100 graves, so there may be some of the 9th Alabama buried there as well. The land is owned by the Rollins Family and is under contract to Centrex Homes to develop. The preliminary archeology report submitted to Prince William County states that the land owner removed several headstones from the cemetery as protection from vandalism. The report contains several photos of the cemetery - I will see if one of my Prince William County contacts can obtain a copy of the photos.
I will be happy to send you jpegs of the development plans if you give me your e-mail address.

Thanks for your interest, time is not on our side.
