Post April 9th Paroles
Mon May 28 13:55:12 2001
After Lee met Grant on April 9th, Holtzclaw's batt. and others met the Union Army at Blakeley, Ala. This was the conclusion of the long seige that had begun earlier at Spanish Fort, Ala. These areas are across Mobile Bay from Mobile.
On May 4, 1865, Gen. Rbt. Taylor, son of President Zachary Taylor and former brother-in-law to Jefferson Davis, surrendred his troops at Citronelle, Ala. The soldiers were spread out from Citronelle north toward Meridan and other areas. Thus, some of the paroles state they were given at Citronelle while others indicate Meridan at a later date.
