Your message is essentially correct. However, Holtzclaw's Brigade had been posted to Spanish Fort, which was evacuated the night before Blakely fell. Holtzclaw's men made their escape on a treadway that was just a couple of feet wide in some places. That's why so many of this brigade was on hand to surrender with Taylor's Army the following month.
