George,
The S.C.V. is perceived by each member as something different. Some camps are much stronger and vocal than others. One big effort by local camps besides the fight against revisionist history is the marking of confederate veterans graves. My camp (Capt. John Marion DeShazo - #1563
Leeds, Ala.) has marked over 30 graves of local veterans who never had a government veterans marker on their graves. We are continually on the lookout for other unmarked graves. The main headquarters for the S.C.V. has been moved to Springhill, Tenn. Many folks today are too lazy or disinterested in protecting their grandfathers good name. Most towns could register every man in some of the South's smaller towns if the interest was there. The best thing that has happened for membership lately is the Confederate flag issue.
