As good as they may be, websites are copies of Natioanl Archives records, and sometimes people make mistakes or leave things out. Francis Dearing and three other Dearings appear on the rolls of this company. The others are David L., Jobe and Peter. Jobe Dearing appears only on the roll of the company when it first mustered but not later; the other two died in service.

Francis Dearing received a twenty-day furlough to go home and recover from an illness on Jan. 20, 1862. When the regiment was marching north into Kentucky, he was left sick at Pikeville TN on Sept. 12, 1862. There were no other records.

Here's a summary of the information I have on his company and his captains:

Company “G” of Cherokee County “Cherokee Mountaineers”

Jackson Millsaps. Resigned for health reasons, July 31, 1862. Later Captain of Company “D”, Davenport’s Alabama Cavalry Battalion.
John N. Barry. Appointed Captain to rank July 31, 1862. Wounded at Murfreesboro, Tennessee, December 31, 1862. Cashiered by sentence of court martial at Dalton, Georgia, April 23, 1864.
James Hill Leath. Promoted Captain June 21, 1864. Wounded at Lickskillet Road, Georgia, July 28, 1864. [DAB4:1023]

Organizing at Broomtown, Alabama, July 6, 1861, company officers received commissions from the governor dated July 27, 1861. Members left Cedar Bluff, Alabama, August 14, 1861, and enlisted in Confederate service three days later. They joined survivors of Companies “F”, “H” and “K” to become Company “I”, consolidated 19th Alabama Infantry Regiment.

You should inform the webmaster for the 19th Ala. site that your ancestor was left off the roll by mistake.
