A letter I own, addressed to Volney's oldest daughter addressing her as cousin, was written by a T.D. Eddington, later a Major in the 4th Tennessee Inf. (US). Because of the extreme difficulties in finding him (I've been searching for fifteen years), I've wondered if it is possible that he enlisted under an alias? I've seen examples of this with other Confederate soldiers.
