I. M. Hughes

Thank you, thank you. Maybe with this help I can track Isaac. His widow did not apply for a pension until 1915, and it says: He enlisted in April 1862 and served until the end of the war with Company G - 28th Texas Dismounted Calvalry and that he never transferred and was never detailed. Which brings into question why his tombstone reads differently????

The War Department Adjutant General's Office reply dated March 1, 1915 says: "The records show that I.M. Hughes (name also borne as J. M. Hughes), private, Co. G, 28th Texas Calvalry, C.S.A., enlisted April 20, 1862. On the roll for January and February, 1864, last on file, he was reported absent. No later record of him has been found."

In the Tennessee Colony, Anderson Co., TX where Isaac lived there is also a Daniel Chesley Hughes. This coupled with the Chesley Hughes gives me another avenue to explore.
