Alan J. PittsNeed more information.....Tue Mar 6 07:09:49 2001 There were two First Alabama Volunteers in Confederate service, and therefore more than one Company "F". The first was from Tallapoosa County; the second from Barbour County. The 'first' First Alabama served at Pensacola as a twelve month unit and was mustered out of service in Janauary of 1862. The second reorganized as an artillery regiment and was captured at Island Ten and Port Hudson. Most officers remained in Northern prisons for the remainder of the war. The men were exchanged after Port Hudson and eventually left artillery service to fight as infantrymen in the Army of Tennessee. Company F..1st ala. inf.
