Sorry to say that there is no listing on Broadfoot's Roster for a Hardy S.Gaddy. There also is no listing in Alabama units for H. Gaddy or S. Gaddy. Also not listed as spelled Gaddey or Gaddie. However this does not mean that he was not a Confederate soldier - just means there are no records for him with the National Archives. Considering that he was 46 years old in 1861 it is certainly possible,but unlikely that he was in the C.S. Army. There were men of that age and older in the C.S.Army, but for the vast majority they were 18 to 35 years old. He or his widow could have gotten a pension for his service in the U.S. Army for service in Indian Wars before the War of Southern Independence. I suggest that you contact the National Archives and see if they have any pension records for him. Best of luck!
