There are printed books of the compiled service records for service of volunteer soldiers in Indian Wars. There is also a book of pensions awarded by the federal government for service in Indian Wars. I believe Virgil White is the compiler in both cases.
If your ancestor lived in AL in the 1830s, his most likely Indian Wars service was either in the Seminole or Creek Wars of the 1830s.
