mollie walton guards - 35th Al inf
Wed Feb 21 23:18:54 2001

Bingo, By the way Alan who is your ancestor in the 35th.
Well, anyway the diary of the soldier in co. d,35th Alabama
infantry was a Sowell,William O. I did have one book right,
To Lochaber Na Mair??; don't mention the spelling. You
can read this book at most libraries in the TN Valley around
Athens. You can probably purchase a copy from Limestone ARchives where I got Mine. I loaned it to someone writing a history of the 35th and never got it back. Anyway, there is even better news. I did a search
on the internet and there is a family of people(Martin) who
are descended from this man and they have the diary on
the internet. Go to Yahoo and do an advanced search
for exact phrase match on mollie walton guards. It should
be the first match. It has everything in the book without
having to buy it. It talks about them getting uniforms and
equipment from Miss Walton. Forming at Cambridge then
taking their company to LaGrange Academy and forming
the 35th Infantry. Even better, on the internet hit was
"Confederate Echos" a book I haven't even thought about
in 15 years. On the internet site was the full excerps from
a Lt. of Co. D, 35th Alabama Infantry. It was so much I didn't have time to read it. But I will look at the confederate echoes site this weekend. By the way, my friend has a picture of this Sowell soldier wearing a grey
jacket with grey pants and infantry blue stripe. I hope this
helps you some. Let me know about your ancestor, as I know a lot of people in this area.
DeWayne Scott
