John CarterCO H 9th AlabamaTue Feb 20 10:16:37 2001 Capt.David Houston had quite a few run-ins with members of his company and that, along with some heavy drinking, was the cause of his removal from command early in the war. He returned home, was re-instated for awhile (I think due his father's influence), but then resigned. I had heard that he had joined a partisan ranger company later on, He was the son of Gen. George Houston who was a U.S. Senator, an Alabama Congressman, and later the Governor of Alabama.Actually a former Confederate general, Roger A. Pryor, did the same thing- resigned his commission and later joined the 4th Virginia Cavalry as a private.CO H and CO F of the 9th Alabama were all from Limestone Co. The name "J.McClellan" listed on the roster should be W.C. McClellan (my ancestor who started out with CO H and changed to CO F)...it was wrong on the original roster. His brother, John Beatty McClellan, served with the 26th/50th AL and was the Capt. of CO H in that outfit. John CarterCapt. McClellan Alan J. Pitts, Wed Feb 21 07:16 Capt.
