Alan J. PittsCapt. McClellanWed Feb 21 07:16:40 2001 Do you happen to know his exact rank in Co. "E" (Malone's "Limestone Rebels") before being appointed Captain of Co. "H" (Haney's "Patton Invincibles")? This seems to have been an odd situation in which McClellan was appointed to a position held by Archibald D. Ray, who had been captured at Blackland, Miss., the previous summer. Records show that Ray was exchanged at Vicksburg, Miss., Dec. 8, 1862, and returned to his company after a furlough. Meanwhile McClellan was seriously wounded at Murfreesboro and eventually reassigned. Ray returned to his previous position as Captain of Co. "H" while the Army of Tennessee camped around Tullahoma. Do you happen to know what happened to Capt. McClellan after he recovered from his wound? Capt. John Beatty McClellan John Carter, Wed Feb 21 08:58
