Jim MartinBeers in Alabama UnitsWed Feb 14 10:49:49 2001Dear Ms. Johnson,From what I've been able to discover your George Washington Beers was a member of the Lomax Sharpshooters (Rifles) from Lowndes County, which was originally Company "H" of the 3rd Alabama Infantry. The original Company "G" aka, The Montgomery True Blues became an artillery unit and members of Company "H" were used to create a new company "G".There is a Frank Bears listed as a member of the 7th Alabama Cavalry, Company "D". I've noted the "Beers" name is many times misspelled as "Bears" and "Biers". This unit was recruited from Greene, Montgomery, Pickens, Randolph, and Shelby counties. Could this be your Benjamin Franklin Beers? Here are all the Beers I found in Alabama and Louisiana.Alabama:Beers George W. G 3 Alabama Infantry.
