Thank you very much. I have tried to find the middle names of some of the four or five James M. Sims in AL this period. This man is really close. James in the 1850 census shows to be ca 22 yrs, so he would be thiry to thirty eight roughly in the War period, if he indeed survived an apparent medical disaster of some kind in Sumter Co. in the 1850's. There were many apparent deaths then as I take the census and look for the folks later.

FYI, this James Marion Sims seems to be different from the one in Franklin or Lamar Co. who was in the units recruited in that area and was in the 1850 census and in land records-he too was James M. Sims.

It is possible the man I am seeking documentation on was James Meredith Sims, or James Martin Sims.
