I don't doubt the authenticity of the flag, but compared with the battle flags at ADAH, it seems to be in unusually good condition to have been made in September 1862 and carried in the number of engagements attributed to it by Hendershott. Color guards often carried a few flags with them as extras, replacements, or even retired flags.
It all may be true. It just seems too good to be.
I think for sure that no museum or archives bought it at that price.
