Of course you have everything I've read about Allen T. Estes, but I can provide information about the 5th & 10th Alabama Cavalry. I hope to someday learn the exact extent of the company exchange that took place between the 5th and 10th Alabama in October 1864. I suspect your ancestor was one of those belonging to a 10th Alabama company that was reassigned to the 5th Cavalry. He would have been captured at Pond Spring about two months afterwards. Somewhere I have a quote from General Forrest about the return of Roddey's men captured in this campaign. Let me warn you, it's not very flattering.
