According to a report printed in the Eufaula
Times dtd May 18, 1862: Pvt P. Bernstein
was among the 262 men of the ELA that "left
Eufaula in April 1862;it marched down Broad
Street and crossed the river at the site of
Moulthorpe's brickyard at Georgetown, (Ga)
where it boarded the train for the front"

Stated in another: the ELA was engaged in
more than 100 battles. It fought at Chattanooga,
and was with Genl E. Kirby Smith in the
Kentucky Campaign. Was with Genl J.E. Johnston
in the Georgia Campaign and surrendered with
Genl Richard Taylor's Army at Meridian, Miss;
it lost 48 men killed and wounded and 36 by
diseases.
