Your ancestor enlisted in Co. "G" 16th Alabama Inf. Regt. This regiment organized at Courtland on Aug. 15, 1861, and went to east Tennessee. It saw action at Mill Springs under Zollicofer and returned to Corinth, MS in time to fight at Shiloh. If you're interested I can suggest how you might acquire a map of the battlefield with markers which will help you trace the path of the 16th Alabama.

Your ancestor's company was called the “Marion County Guards”, which organized under Capt. Alexander H. Helvenston. He was appointed Major October 21, 1861, to rank August 15, 1861, and succeeded by George W. Archer, elected Captain September 6, 1861. Your ancestor was among officers and men who organized at Tuscumbia, Alabama, on July 8, 1861. They mustered at Courtland, Alabama, August 16, 1861.

Let me know if I can help further.
