I had two ancestors in this unit, my ggrandfather, Doctor Benjamin Franklin Belk and his brother, Elijah K. Belk. Both mustered in as privates on Aug. 16, 1861 in Courtland, AL. At some point, Elijah was listed as sick and served as a nurse at the end of the war. They both survived and moved to Corn Hill, Texas in 1861. The United Confederate Veterans Camp in Bartlett was named the Doc Belk camp for him, although he was never an officer that I know of. I have not been able to find out anything else about it. The family has lived in Texas ever since. I am very interested in the map you mentioned that traces the movements of the 16th AL and would love to know all I can about them.
