Ken JonesRe: J.L. CottlesFri Sep 15 11:29:40 2000 Hate to rain on the parade, but my muster roll shows the name as Isaac L. Cottles in the 11th AL (from the _Roster of Confederate Soldiers_). The reason there was no Co. "J" in the army was the difficulty in distinguishing between "I" and "J" in script, as in this instance. The only other "Cottles" in the Confederate army was J. P. Cottles of the 5th AL Infantry, Co. "H". There were also several men named "Cottle", as in John C. Cottle (13th AL Inf., Co. "K") and J. S. Cottle (14th Inf., Co. "F"), just to pick on a couple with "J" names.Ken JonesIsaac Cottles Todd, Fri Sep 15 12:47 Isaac L.
