Hayes Lowe
44th in Selma
Sat Feb 3 22:22:42 2001

I've done a little research in the microfilm on the 44th in this time period. I was researching a specific person, so I don't know if I have any general information that may interest you.

The man I was researching was Lt. James Jackson Garrett of Greene County, who was transferred out very early to service as an Ordnance Officer for Gen. Longstreet at the Corps level. He joined the 44th in the county that Selma is located (Dallas County) because he was teaching at the time at Summerfield's Methodist Centenary Institute. [An E.M. Garrett also joined the Dallas County company at Selma. I've been trying to find if they were related, with no luck so far.]

I'll check the records that I have from this period and see if I find anything that I think may interest you. If I find anything, I'll post or email.
