Bruce; Thanks for the info. The reason for my inquiry is I have what I strongly believe is an early war ambrotype of him minus the beard. The uniform is militia style but he has Confederate style rank insignia on the collar(major). Didn't the Confederates adopt this style collar insignia? Do you have any information on the uniform of the militia from Tuskegee, Ala. ca. 1860-61. As you probably know, Evander Law was instrumental in the formation of this unit.
