Derek: If you don't have a copy of EARLY SETTLERS OF LAWRENCE COUNTY, ALABAMA, compiled by Charles Jordan, there are good accounts of both the 9th and 16th Alabama regiments in that book. You could buy a copy at The Drug Shop in Moulton, Alabama or contact Charles directly at P.O. Box 434, Moulton, AL 35650-0434. About $40 + shipping - maybe cheaper at The Drug Shop. The accounts in the book were written by Col. Saunders back around 1870 and published in the Moulton newspaper of the time.

Both those regiments were initially raised in North Alabama.
