Tuscaloosa camps

I only have seen passing references to it. I have seen it called the "Camp of Instruction", though. My guess is that it was an A.V.C. camp, rather than a "Confederate" camp. All the references that I have seen to it have been early war references. I don't think that it was still in existence at the end of the war, particularly as there is no mention of it in Union Gen. Croxton's report regarding his raid on Tuscaloosa, and there is no reference to it in the paroles that he did at Tuscaloosa. Also guessing, I'd say that Camp Powell was the Camp of Instruction, and Camp Tuscaloosa was the drill grounds (just east of campus, as I recall off the top of my head) at the U of A. Also recalling off the top of my head, I think that I have seen a reference that the Camp of Instruction was located on the river, but I may be thinking of the prison camp.
