New Co. C

"Old" Co. C was formed in Pickens Co. The evidence is unclear whether "Old" Co. C was simply renamed as "New" Co. H, or if the companies were reorganized entirely. There is evidence both ways. In fact, it is even unclear from the evidence whether Co. H was ever the "Warrior Guard", or not. Some evidence indicates that some members of Old C are found in New C. And, some members of Old C are found in New H. It is all very confusing!

Also note the difference in names for Capt. Goode between what is in the record and what is on his tombstone. Two different New C captains with the last name Goode?

From the latest draft of my book:

"The original Company H was called the "Warrior Guard", and was formed at Tuscaloosa. Some sources state that Co. A was the "Warrior Guards", and that they were replaced by a company from Lowndes. Co. That may be so, but it is also clear that "old" Co. H was replaced with men from Pickens Co. In fact, one source states that old Co. C actually became New Co. H. This is supported by the record. See the Official Records of the War between the States, Part I, Vol. 25. It is also supported by the fact that Capt. Burton F. Goode's tombstone (Orange Grove Cemetery, Jackson Co., Miss.) states he was Captain of New Company C, and it is known that he was Capt. of the Monroe Guards, the original Company D."
