Thanks for the info

E.L. Hord was my ggggrandfather's nephew so he's a cousin. According to the Hord geneology book I have, there were several cousins but only a few are listed in the archives records...as is the problem with my ggrandad.

But, my ggrandad may have never entered the regular service - from the stories about him, it sounds as though he was quite involved with the partisans. I checked into the 10th Arkansas (the unit he was supposedly in) and there was a cav unit by that designation that specialized in spying behind enemy lines so I'm guessing he was involved with the partisans in that way. Perhaps the geneologist who did the family book may have thought he was in the regulars and guessed he was in the 10th Arkansas simply because he was so involved with the MO partisans or something.

Also, Francis' brother, George was in a MO unit for a short time and then transferred to the 3rd regiment of Col. McRoy's Arkansas brigade according to this family history. He was apparently taken prisoner at Little Rock and taken to St. Louis MO. But the only George I found in the archives was one listed for the 29th TN. I don't know if he was perhaps paroled and rejoined in TN or if perhaps the family geneologist was mistaken.

So, it has been so difficult to track down info on grandpa and uncle George that I decided to go with one I had seen listed in other places. A more distant cousin was a cousin of General McCullough, Benjamin McCullough Hord - I found a Benjamin M.C. Hord listed as a Sgt.

By the way, I have a list of Hords from the archives - some I have units for and some the info was so cryptic that I wasn't sure. I posted the list (along with names I received from other sources) at my website on my geenology page:
