Cass County (TX) Veterans' Association

Confederate Reunions, under the sponsorship of the Cass County Veterans' Association, began in 1889. Meetings were held at different locations until a permanent site was selected. In 1903, the reunion was held at Linden on the occasion of the dedication of a Confederate memorial; in 1905, the reunion was at Knight's Bluff, then finally, the meetings were located at Stone Cole Bluff, both along the Sulphur River.

All these photos were supplied by Dan Hampton, a true historian. The 1900 reunion photo was originally published in the Citizens Journal, Atlanta, TX, March 29, 1979, and the photo with the identification was supplied by Dan Hampton's mother. The Linden photo is the property of G. W. Walker, Custom Photo Studios, Atlanta, TX.

This particular photo is undated, but presumably is from around 1900. Some of the veterans are identified, others not, in the second photo, below.

This photo was taken sometime before 1919 (one of the soldiers, Bill Lee who is visible in this view, died that year)

This photo was taken at the dedication of the Confederate Soldiers' Memorial, Linden, TX, in 1903. This is also an early photo of the Cass County Courthouse, the oldest operating courthourse in Texas.
