Civil War Diary of Chaplain William E. Wiatt : Chaplain William E. Wiatt's friends and relatives in Alabama

William E. Wiatt was born in Goucester County, Virginia, in 1826, to Louisa Campbell Stubbs and Dr. William Graham Wiatt. The Wiatt family name was spelled "Wyatt" in the old form. He married Catherine Spencer in 1846. She died in 1849. They were the parents of one child. William moved to Lowndes County, Alabama, soon afterwards. He married Charlotte Laura Coleman, daughter of Mary Armstrong and William Coleman, 29 September 1852. The family moved to Gloucester, Virginia, in 1856. They were the parents of: Mary Lee, Addison Murphy, Charles Americus, John Edward, and Laura Campbell. In 1861 William became the Chaplain for the 26th Virginia Infantry, Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A. In 1862 his family moved to Lowndes County, Alabama. Charlotte died 19 April 1864 and was buried 20 April 1864 near the Hickory Grove Church. He married again in 1871 and fathered four more children. He died 14 February 1918 and was buried at Newington Baptist Church, Gloucester County, Virginia.
