There are some 152 cards in his file, I examined only a fraction.

Major Patrick H. Fitzhugh

His regimental muster rolls record him missing in action at Taylor’s Farm on the Aug. 31 and Sept/Oct, 1864 rolls, and on December 31 as missing “supposed to have been killed

Brigade Inspection Report of Aug. 10, 1864 “supposed captured June 17, 1864”, Oct. 26, 1864, “captured June 17, 1864”,
Nov. 27, 1864, “captured by enemy June 17, 1864, supposed to be dead”, later reported as Died/Deceased, June 18, 1864

Note: I suspect that young Richard Fitzhugh below, to be his son and was carrying the regimental flag when his father fell and he remained with him when captured. It may have been his subsequent letters home which revealed his death.

I found no reference to his capture, etc., in the Official Records

Page, recorded as 2nd Sergeant August 31, 1862, missing in action and captured June 15, 1864, turned over to Fort Monroe, Va. June 17, forwarded to Point Lookout, Md. June 18, transferred to Elmira, N. Y. prison July 9, transferred to James River for exchange March 10, 1865

* This company subsequently became (2nd) Company B, 26th Regiment Virginia Infantry
