Based on the locations and content mentioned I would care to guess it was most likely Spring-Summer of 1862, SE of Richmond on the North side of the James... Pickets or Advance elements of both forces checking, skirmishing and spatting with each other, most likely sometime during the Peninsula Campaign. Not a formal designated "battle" per-se
