The 1st link I am familiar with. The CV application (Anthony's copy) hung on the wall of my Grandparents house until they died in the 70's. I have a cousin with the Butt name (which name he can have) who wound up with it. Another item is a cane that A.S. Butt received while in The Old Soldiers Home in Portsmouth (so I was told). It was hand-carved in a scroll fashion all the way down the side and given to him by an ex- union soldier. Basically a message of reconciliation. I have written down somewhere what it said and hope to find it soon.
About the CV application: I visited the Norfolk Library about 10 years ago and saw the hard copy on file. It also mentioned that the facts stated in the application were verified. But, I also noticed that he listed Company A as his unit. He was in Co. B the entire time, which makes me wonder the accuracy of that document.
The Cartys: I posted a lot of things on Ancestry a few years ago regarding my Butt/Carty connection. Rose Carty Brown (mentioned in your post) is my 2nd cousin. She unfortunately passed away this year, but also contributed to the Carty line on Ancestry.com, if that's any help.
Headed from Central Florida to Dixie in the morning for the Holiday and will be having Thanksgiving dinner at the Butt house! The memories overtake me every time I visit there.
Thanks again so much for your help. Happy Thanksgiving!
