I could not locate a history of this unit.

The roster of the battalion contains the names of 335 men assigned.

10th VA Infantry Battalion also called 4th Battalion Valley Reserves
Organized: on 8/23/64
Mustered Out: 2/27/65

John H. Hughes, Captain, Capt. John H. Hughes' Company of Reserves,* (Alleghany County, Virginia), enlisted April 27, 1864 at Covingtow by Lt. Roune for the war, elected Capt., Co. This company subsequently became Company C, 10th Battalion, Virginia Reserves (4th Battalion Valley Reserves). Organized August 23, 1864, with five companies, A to E. Some of the men of this battalion served in a temporary field organization known as 3rd (Chrisman's) Battalion Virginia Reserves during the latter part of 1864.
